We have an honest review, one that will provide you with ALL the intel necessary to make an INFORMED decision.

The Good

The Extreme Dog fence comes with a great set of instructions that will help you easily install the system. The features of this system are decent.

The Not So Good

Though the features of this product are good, the collar in particular is not very sturdy and can be easily damaged.

The Bottom Line

Though the system is affordable, it comes with a set of cons which are difficult to side step. Don’t worry, we got you covered, we do have a better alternative. Click here to check it out.

About the Extreme Dog Fence (Max Grade System)

A simple invisible dog fence to keep your pooch within a designated boundary. It comes with a perimeter wire that can be buried along your property’s boundary perimeter.

The system is an all-in-one electronic containment system that can be used to keep your pooch or pooches safe within your property.

Once the wire is buried and installed, all you have to do is place the collar receiver on your pooch, and you are READY TO TEST the settings of the collar receiver.

If it isn’t one dog and you have more than one dog, you can purchase multiple collars for multiple dogs (additional collars) and regulate the static correction levels of the collar receiver based on preference.

The system also comes with a tone-only mode enabling sound correction. (You can adjust the correction level based on preference.)

Once correctly installed, this system can work to keep your pets safe.

What’s in the Box? (Max Grade Ultimate Performance System)

The Max Grade System comes with,

  • The small and lightweight eXtreme Dog Collar
  • The mountable eXtreme Transmitter
  • Plug-in surge protector
  • 50 feet of twisted wire
  • 500 feet of dog fence cable
  • 10 yard staples
  • 50 dog training flags
  • 2 professional waterproof splice kits

How Does the Extreme Fence work?

The perimeter wire is wirelessly connected to the collar receiver that your pooch wears. When your dog approaches the boundary, tone or static correction (electric shock) is triggered, informing your pooch of the perimeter of the wireless fence. (Containment system)

In ground electric fences such as the Extreme Fence are invisible fence systems that work using radio signaling. Dog owners can install the system and train their dogs to the system. It will work well to keep your pooch safe within the boundary of your property.

This wireless electric fence system is varied from traditional dog fences. It doesn’t require you to build an actual wall that could disturb the view and value of your property.

The boundary wire has a digital transmitter, which uses digital frequency encoding to communicate with the collar. If your pooch comes too close to the boundary wire, it will trigger the correction on your pooch’s collar, keeping your buddy WITHIN the boundary.

Key Features of the Extreme Dog Fence (Max Grade System)

Invisible fences are all the rave and no review would be complete without a deeper look into the features of this electronic containment system.

While their BASIC containment system has tone and static correction activated by a handheld remote, more advanced containment systems, such as the Max Grade System (the one that’s being reviewed), come with boundary wires (twisted wire); which are considered BETTER systems.

The company has a variety of collars and systems with various features.

This particular system comes with 7 LEVELS of STATIC correction. You can adjust the correction level based on preference. It uses progressive correction to allow for gradual alteration of correction, if necessary.

Weighing at only 4.4 ounces, the collar fits dogs between 8 and 120 pound dogs. The receiver collar is WATER RESISTANT (Waterproof Receiver).

The boundary wire length can be chosen on the purchase based on the size of the wire needed; you can mark as big of a boundary as you would like.

What is significant is that the system comes with training information.

Using flags, you will be able to fence train and in the process behavioral train your naturally curious friend.

This Max Grade system doesn’t come with a rechargeable collar and has a battery life of about 4-6 months; based on how frequently your pooch triggers the system.

And how close does your canine friend have to come to the boundary line wire for the collar to activate? You can adjust the signal field width using the transmitter and set it between a setting of 1 and 32 to define the safe zone of up to 15 acres.

The system comes with training flags. (Training flags are a great way to train your dog to an invisible fence.)

Price and Refund Policy of the Extreme Dog Fence Collar (Max Grade System)

Electric wireless dog fences come at varying prices, some for a few hundred dollars and others for over $1000.

The price of the basic Max Grade System, $419.95, is relatively affordable compared to other products in the market. You will have to pay extra for batteries, collars and extra wire.

If you aren’t happy with your purchase, the company has a 30-day window within which you can get a full refund on your purchase.

With the collar’s battery in this system being non-rechargeable, a new collar will set you back around $150.

The refund policy does place your mind at ease. You can buy and test the product; however, you will have to further the hassle of installing the system to try it. The electronics have a ten-year WARRANTY, while the underground wire is guaranteed for LIFETIME

And then, the displeased customers, who didn’t like the service or faced trouble with the product.

Though the features of this product got decent reviews, it is obviously not the BEST invisible fence in the market. There are many unhappy customers.

Is it Worth Buying the Extreme Dog Fence? (Max Grade System)

The system is marketed to be a VIABLE, AFFORDABLE, and PRACTICAL system that could provide you real value. However, in our experience, it falls short on this promise.

Though the system can be considered affordable, do you really want to spend money on something that doesn’t provide great VALUE FOR MONEY

The non-rechargeable nature of the collar is probably one of the main reasons we were turned off from the product.

Though the system is affordable, the product’s affordability is also a reason to worry about this system. The fragile nature of the collar makes you think, ‘IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?

Though the product has some good reviews, they are NOT all HAPPY CUSTOMERS.

Pros and Cons of the Extreme Dog Fence System (Max Grade System)

The Max Grade System has many pros but comes with a few cons. Hence, here is a look into the various pros and cons of the system.

Pros

One of the biggest pros of the Max Grade System is the EASE at which it can be INSTALLED. It doesn’t require a lot of thinking; all you have to do is bury the boundary line wire.

If you are worried about your dog’s skin, the receiver collar is designed to increase COMFORTABILITY for your pooch’s neck. (Perfect for most dogs.)

The underground wiring is DURABLE, usually lasting for 20+ years.

You can buy MULTIPLE collars and integrate them with the installed system if you have many dogs.

This invisible fence kit has a set of TUTORIALS, which will help you train your dog to use this particular invisible fence system.

The collar is WATERPROOF, which means the system will keep working even if your dog is a swimmer. The collar is submersible upto 10 feet. (Dogs live it!)

Considering the price at which the system is sold, it is AFFORDABLE. The electronics have a ten-year WARRANTY, while the underground wire is guaranteed for LIFETIME

The extreme dog fence kit also comes with SURGE PROTECTION, which will protect your dog and your investment from lightning and power surges.

All in all, the system has many pros. Do the pros outweigh the cons? We will see.

Cons

The biggest con on this wireless electric dog fence system is that the collar is NOT RECHARGEABLE. You will have to replace the batteries if possible otherwise, purchase a new collar, which could be expensive.

In our experience, we faced a lot of frustration with regards to the collar’s durability. It can be explained as being ‘FLIMSY‘ (easily damaged – dogs can damage them)

Further, to add to the complication, replacement collars will set you back $150, which is rather EXPENSIVE, considering the battery will run out every 4 to 6 months.

Customers have also expressed frustration over the vibration feature of the system. The fence was a HIT or MISS on the low-level setting.

Complaints of the manual not being INFORMATIVE enough have led other customers away from the system.

A Great Alternative to the Extreme Dog Fence

If you are picking an electric dog fence for your dog, it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t provide you with a better alternative.

Brought to you by the world-renowned dog behaviorist Cesar Millan. (Loved by dogs and dog owners.)

Halo 2+ is an INNOVATIVE, technologically advanced dog collar that doesn’t require a wire.

It uses a digital frequency encoding feature and there are no wires to install; which is probably one of the most significant selling points compared to the Max Grade System.

halo 2+ collar

Most wireless dog fence systems come with an electric dog fence wire (boundary line wire), which will require you to dig to install; which you won’t have to do with the Halo 2+ dog collar.

The inbuilt technology of the collar keeps away stray signal interference from neighboring electronic fences. (You won’t be bothering the homeowner’s association.) Compared to other electric dog fences in the market, the Halo 2+ dog collar is more RELIABLE – (It uses digital frequency encoding.)

Halo 2+ is one of the BETTER invisible dog fence systems on the market. (And DOGS love it!)

The smart waterproof collar comes with a smartphone app which enables you to track your dog’s real-time position. The collar has a 10 square mile coverage and comes with 15 static correction levels.

While traditional dog fences work well to keep your dog within a boundary, invisible fences are tempting due to the lack of need to install a physical fence that can obstruct views.

Unlike other wireless electric fences in the market, Halo 2+ is a great system with EXCELLENT FUNCTIONALITY.

All you need is the Halo 2+ dog collar and the mobile app for the product. SIMPLICITY at its finest.

The collar’s battery is RECHARGEABLE, so you won’t have to keep purchasing parts of your system. With a single charge lasting about 20 hours, with a battery life ranging from 3 to 5 years.

The system is seamless, and for a few hundred dollars over the asking price of the Extreme Dog Fence, it is an affordable product that is one of the more reliable invisible fences on the market.

You can define boundaries on your phone and define as many boundaries and areas as you would like. You can also add more collars if you have multiple dogs. (Or want more dogs!)

The LOCATION-ENHANCED TRACKING feature of the Halo Collar uses GPS and GNSS technology to improve accuracy. Just glance at your phone, and you can see where your dog is. The location-enhanced tracking can be very helpful if your dog runs through an open gate.

The only drawback, it is a little costlier than the Max Grade System. That being the case, all the great features of Halo 2+, makes it a worthy and valuable purchase for pet parents.

Halo 2+ is considerably better than the Max Grade System, which requires you to bury the wiring in a designated and fixed space.

The Halo 2+ has excellent customer reviews and many happy customers and dogs!

Conclusion

The Extreme Dog Fence system is an invisible fence system that works well to keep your pooch within the boundary of your property. This system could work well for you if you are on a tight budget.

Though the features of the Max Grade Fence have many pros, certain customers have had trouble with the quality of the product. The non-chargeable collar is also a hassle to replace.
